National Night Out Tonight

By Brooke, October 6, 2009, Charity & Community, News

Fortunately it's been a slow hurricane season this year. Unfortunately this means many of us haven't mingled with our neighbors in over a year!  For those of you who need a different excuse to walk next door, I have just the thing for you – tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 6) marks the 26th anniversary of National Night Out. Until today, I always thought National Night Out was an excuse for a weeknight block party. But after further research I found the true purpose was to fight crime and drugs by getting to know your neighbors. I'll support that cause!  So get out tonight and reconnect with those that are closest to you, literally.

For more information check with your neighborhood association for local activities. If you can't find anything planned in your area then check out Discovery Green in downtown. They're having a National Night Out Event from 6:00-9:00 p.m.  FYI – the rest of the country recognized this day back in August, but because we're Texas, and because it was 100 million degrees in August, the date was pushed a bit.
