Memorial Day Activities around Texas

By Brooke, May 27, 2010, Charity & Community

As you probably know, Memorial Day Weekend is quickly approaching.  For some people this means getting together with friends/family for a BBQ or going to the lake or beach  for some water fun. But if you are looking to do something completely different, then I may have the thing for you.  There are a few big events in the Hill Country this holiday weekend, which would be fun for the whole family, Texas style.

Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival
On May 28 & 29, 2010, join the people of Fredericksburg for some Cajun fun. They’ll be serving red beans & rice, boudin, gumbo and crawfish. If crawfish isn’t quite your thing, they also will have hamburgers, corndogs, and plenty of Fredericksburg’s own German sausage. In addition to the food there will be, live music, a children’s area for kids of all ages, arts and crafts and more. Tickets are $6 adults ($10 for a two-day pass) and kids 12 years and under are $1.

Luckenbach’s 160th Birthday Celebration (for the 2nd time!)
It was so much fun the first time, they had to do it again. From May 29-31, Luckenbach is celebrating its 160 birthday (part deux). It will be an entire weekend filled with live music, cold beverages and celebration. This is a great place where you can relax and feel like you have stepped back in time.

Kerrville Folk Festival
Kerrville is hosting their 39th annual Folk Festival. It runs for 18 straight days and will feature numerous singer/songwriters. It’s the longest continuously running festival of its kind in North America and has become internationally known as the place to be seen for singer/songwriters of varying musical styles. This festival runs from May 27 through Sunday June 13, 2010 and ticket prices range from $25 to $40 depending on the day.
