Moving Green

For those of you who have ever experienced a move, which most of us have, you can probably relate to my recent situation. You have just moved in, things are finally in place, you’re just about to start relaxing…then all of a sudden you see the leaning Tower of Pisa made from all the cardboard boxes you used in the process. Your smile fades and a tear drops down. You’re hit with the realization that you’re mission has not been completed. In fact, the cardboard box battle has just begun. This may sound slightly extreme to some of you, but after recently moving, it’s exactly what happened to us.
As luck would have it, I found out about a company called MovingGreen.com. Albeit too late for us, it may be beneficial to share with anyone about to start the moving process. Movinggreen.com not only has an answer to the cardboard box problem, but it also does it in an eco-friendly way.
Here’s how it works. When you’re ready to move, call them and they will deliver their special eco-friendly boxes to your front door (labels and zip ties included). Their boxes are made of recyclable plastic (reducing up to 90% of waste generated during a move), which compared to cardboard boxes, make them better for the environment and more durable (no more smooched boxes). An added bonus is that the boxes don’t require tape and most can collapse flat and pop open when needed. Now here’s the even better part, once you are done unpacking, you call them and they come and pick up the boxes. No fuss of countless trips to the nearest recycling center or cutting them down so far that hopefully the trash truck will take them (I’m not bitter)!
Unfortunately you cannot find this company in Texas, but they do service New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and have been since 1910. If you would like more information on this company, you can view their website at www.movinggreen.com.

We turn our boxes into weed barriers for our garden. Yep, just pull the boxes apart and lay them down in your garden rows (we put them print-side down). They block the weeds, and slowly decompose, adding carbon back to the soil. The ink? Not to worry, most of it is soy-based now. –cheers!
