Guest Blogger: Craig Bryant of Bryant Electric Service on Installing a Back Up Generator

By Texas Electricity, March 3, 2011, Hurricane Prep, News

Many in Texas experienced rolling blackouts in February. Residents were left in their homes without power. But if your home had a power generator, you would not have to worry about the loss of electricity when the power goes out. The power generator can supply your home with the energy it needs. Craig Bryant from Bryant Electric Service ( KeepAustinWired.com ) is providing a special guest blog for Bounce Energy and is covering house generator units. Home owners can benefit from these generators if ever there’s another call for rolling blackouts or a natural disaster event like a hurricane.

“I doubt if there’s any big conspiracy behind the rolling blackouts we experienced recently across Texas. It’s apparent however, that new power generation plants aren’t being built quickly enough to replace aging coal-burning plants which are being decommissioned. At the same time, energy consumption in this country is increasing all the time. So, it’s possible that rolling blackouts may become a common fact of life for Americans, just as they are for people in many other parts of the world. Hopefully, this won’t be the case, but many of our Bryant Electric Service customers aren’t waiting to find out.

After receiving more and more calls for whole house emergency generator units, we began installing equipment made by Generac Power Systems. We have found these represent a good balance of quality and value. Featuring all-weather housings for exterior installations, these run quietly and efficiently on natural gas or propane. Available in a full range of output sizes, these are scaled to meet the energy requirements for any size of home or business. Every generator is fully automated, and each installation is followed by on-site programming by a factory representative. These generators start themselves up at regular intervals to lubricate their power plants and maintain batteries. In a power outage, they will power up within seconds, and power down when the outage ends. More and more homeowners are requesting these, but our installations are just as likely to serve medical clinics and other commercial facilities, where emergency preparation is standard practice.”

Craig Bryant was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and moved to Austin after working as an electrician for a friend’s roommate in Washington, D.C. for about a year and a half. He started working behind the counter at an electrical supply house in Austin before venturing out on his own as an Austin electrician. Craig is now a Master Electrician who runs Bryant Electric Service, a family owned business since 1982.
