Changes to the Bounce Energy Billing System Creates Transparency
By Adam, December 16, 2011, News
Aside from our fantastic rates and plans, many of our customers switch to Bounce Energy simply because they grew tired of attempting to decipher the frustrating bills and invoices they received from their prior energy companies. Bounce prides itself on presenting a billing structure that is easy to understand, clearly presents exactly what customers are being charged, and provides definition to the charges that is free of industry lingo.
Thus, Bounce Energy is transitioning to a presentation of our electricity rates that is more transparent than ever. In the past, the rate displayed to customers reflected the bundling together of three distinct components: the energy charge per kilowatt-hour (kWh) that Bounce pays, the Transmission Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) delivery charge (per month), and the TDSP delivery charge (per kWh). In one sense, this old method seems like a simpler way of presenting our rates, but Bounce feels that customers would appreciate knowing exactly what they are really paying per kWh of usage.
Now, when new customers view the rate for a given plan for their service area on the Bounce Energy website, the rate displayed will reflect an average rate based upon 2,000 kWh of usage. Furthermore, when the customer looks at the Electricity Facts Label (EFL) for each plan, they will see how that rate breaks down into 500 kWh, 1,000 kWh, and 2,000 kWh prices per TDSP, along with a breakdown of how that bundled rate is determined based upon TDSP. However, the rate that you are ultimately charged depends upon the delivery charged assessed by the TDSP for your area for that billing cycle.
What this really means for our customers is this: Bounce Energy remains committed to delivering a set charge per kWh for people who sign up with a plan with a constant energy rate. Our customers like knowing exactly what they will be paying each month for energy. Unfortunately, there are charges assessed by the TDSP that Bounce has no control over, and we have to pass these rates along to our customers. Hence, if the TDSP for an area adjusts its rates, Bounce Energy will pass through that adjusted rate, and this could affect a customer’s average price on a given bill.
Current customers who were with Bounce before these rate transparency efforts were put into practice will see these TDSP charges passed along in the form of a TDU adder, which will result in a price per kWh reflected on your monthly bill that might be higher than the plan with a fixed energy rate that you signed up for originally. Please rest assured that the rate you chose with Bounce remains constant, but there are increased TDSP fees that Bounce is passing along to you.
In short, one of Bounce’s principal missions as the largest independent energy provider in Texas is to be as open and upfront as possible when explaining our rates to our great customers. It is our hope that our customers, both present and future, will greatly benefit from this increased transparency regarding our Texas electricity rates and billing structure.
