The holidays are my favorite time of year. The lights, decorations and parties, it truly is a magical time. What I enjoy most of all during the holidays is time spent with family. And what better way to spend time with your family this Holiday season then to take part in some seasonal events around town. Here are some Holiday events happening around Texas for you and your family to enjoy.

Houston

Moody Gardens: Festival of Lights
November 12, 2011 – January 1, 2012
This is the Gulf Coast’s biggest holiday lighting event and features over one million lights and 100 sound-enhanced animated displays. Don’t miss out on pictures with Santa happening every night and best of all it snows every Friday night!

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens: Yuletide: Holiday Time at Bayou Bend
December through New Year’s Day
Here you can take a festive stroll through two hundred and fifty years of history to see how our ancestors celebrated the holidays. The tour begins with a celebration of the first national Thanksgiving in 1789 then proceeds to a Twelfth-Night celebration with George and Marsha Washington and ends with a 1950′s Houston Christmas. Don’t miss out on Family Day, Sunday, December 18th from 1-5 p.m. where admission is FREE!

Discovery Green: Ice at Discovery Green
Nov. 24-Feb. 26
Watch as Discovery Green is transformed into a winter wonderland with a 7,200 sq ft. outdoor ice skating rink. Also check their calendar of events as they offer a variety of family-friendly holiday concerts, movies and more!

Dallas/Ft. Worth

ICE! Featuring Dreamworks’ Shrek the Halls
November 11 through January 1, 2011
Come on out to Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, TX to see two million pounds of hand-carved ice sculptures and slides including loveable, larger-than-life characters like Shrek and Fiona from Dreamworks’ Shrek the Halls. In addition there are over 1.5 million lights, decorations, activities and an eight-lane tubing hill covered in snow!

Christmas in the Square (Frisco)
November 25 – January 8
This is the largest choreographed holiday lights and music display in Texas! Lights and music come on from 6-10 p.m. nightly.

Holiday in the Park (Six Flags Over Texas)
November 25, 2011 – January 2, 2012
During this time Six Flags over Texas transforms into a winter wonderland. Seasonal shows, tasty holiday treats and sledding down a snow hill will make it feel like the Holidays for you and your family.
