6 Fun & Inexpensive Halloween Treats

By Brooke Drake, October 24, 2014, Events & Fun

Between the decorations, costumes and candy, Halloween can be a pretty expensive holiday. But it turns out that not everything Halloween related has to be costly. With these fun and inexpensive Halloween treats, you can keep the festive spirit without breaking the bank.

  • Tiny Witches Hats. This is one of my favorite treats because it’s cute, tasty and with a no-bake cookie as the main ingredient, it’s incredibly easy to make as well.  Place a Hershey Kiss on top of the no-bake chocolate covered cookie and swirl some icing around it to create the mini witch hat. • Candy Corn Cake Wedges. This recipe is a play on the household Halloween favorite, candy corn. It’s creative and looks delicious. Though this recipe is made from scratch, for those in a time crunch could probably substitute with store bought cake mix and frosting and still have the same effect.  Click here for directions.

  • Frozen Ghosts. These cute little ghosts are great because they are really easy to make and with bananas being the main ingredient your budget will be spared with this fun treat. This being another no-bake recipe, if you have little ones in the house, it is perfect for getting them involved too. Click here for directions.

  • Halloween Mummy Cookies. The main component to this treat is Rice Krispie treats, which is great because they are super easy to make, cheap and one batch yields a large amount. So make a batch of Rice Krispie treats, cut out some circles, place two M&Ms as eyes and cover with strips of marshmallow fondant and you have yourself some adorable mummy cookies.  I haven’t tried it yet, but I am thinking you could do lines of white frosting rather than fondant for the mummy wraps if fondant isn’t your thing. • Dirt Pails. This recipe consists of two ingredients: dirt and worms. Ha! Just kidding, it’s actually pudding, Oreos and gummy worms. This tasty treat is sure to be a crowd pleaser for the younger ones.  Whip up a batch of chocolate pudding, crush up some Oreos, mix together and top with some additional Oreo bits and some gummy worms and you have yourself a gross yet delicious treat. • Strawberry Ghosts. These adorable fun ghosts are so easy that even your little ones can help you out in the kitchen. An added bonus is that strawberries are at a good price right now making this treat inexpensive too. Dip the strawberries into melted white chocolate and add little chocolate chips for eyes and melted chocolate for the mouth and you’ve created some delicious edible ghosts. Click here for directions.
