Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of death (and the number one killer of women) in the United States. Luckily for many of us heart disease can be preventable either by medication or lifestyle changes.

This year Bounce Energy and the American Heart Association are teaming up to help fight back against heart disease. The American Heart Association works with millions of Americans every year to help educate about living a healthy lifestyle and providing an invaluable service by offering CPR and first aid training to communities and healthcare providers. This month we’re donating $1 for every new “like” we get on our Facebook page. Team up with us to help fight back against heart disease!

In honor of this month we are pleased to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Houston. Children need positive role models in their lives and Big Brothers and Big Sisters is an amazing organization whose goal is to positively influence children’s lives and have fun while they are at it. Their mission statement is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships. Children who have participated in this program are more likely to have an improved self-esteem, improved academic performance, improved attitude toward school as well as the ability to make better decisions, etc. One child wrote “Every time my big brother came to see me at school and other places I had the best time of my life.” It is stories like this that make Big Brothers and Big Sisters a truly exceptional program and we are glad to support its efforts of changing children’s lives. To learn more about Big Brothers and Big Sisters check out the Big Brothers & Big Sisters facebook to see how you can get involved in this great cause.

This month we are donating $2500 to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Houston plus we are donating an additional $1 for every new “like” on our Bounce Energy facebook and $1 for every new follow on our Bounce Energy twitter. Helping a child reach their full potential and build their future is just one click away.

The lights, decorations and parties, it truly is a magical time. What I enjoy most of all during the holidays is time spent with family. And what better way to spend time with your family this Holiday season then to take part in some seasonal events around town. Here are some Holiday events happening around Texas for you and your family to enjoy.

Houston

Moody Gardens: Festival of Lights
November 12, 2011 – January 1, 2012
This is the Gulf Coast’s biggest holiday lighting event and features over one million lights and 100 sound-enhanced animated displays. Don’t miss out on pictures with Santa happening every night and best of all it snows every Friday night!

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens: Yuletide: Holiday Time at Bayou Bend
December through New Year’s Day
Here you can take a festive stroll through two hundred and fifty years of history to see how our ancestors celebrated the holidays. The tour begins with a celebration of the first national Thanksgiving in 1789 then proceeds to a Twelfth-Night celebration with George and Marsha Washington and ends with a 1950′s Houston Christmas. Don’t miss out on Family Day, Sunday, December 18th from 1-5 p.m. where admission is FREE!

Discovery Green: Ice at Discovery Green
Nov. 24-Feb. 26
Watch as Discovery Green is transformed into a winter wonderland with a 7,200 sq ft. outdoor ice skating rink. Also check their calendar of events as they offer a variety of family-friendly holiday concerts, movies and more!

Dallas/Ft. Worth

ICE! Featuring Dreamworks’ Shrek the Halls
November 11 through January 1, 2011
Come on out to Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, TX to see two million pounds of hand-carved ice sculptures and slides including loveable, larger-than-life characters like Shrek and Fiona from Dreamworks’ Shrek the Halls. In addition there are over 1.5 million lights, decorations, activities and an eight-lane tubing hill covered in snow!

Christmas in the Square (Frisco)
November 25 – January 8
This is the largest choreographed holiday lights and music display in Texas! Lights and music come on from 6-10 p.m. nightly.

Holiday in the Park (Six Flags Over Texas)
November 25, 2011 – January 2, 2012
During this time Six Flags over Texas transforms into a winter wonderland. Seasonal shows, tasty holiday treats and sledding down a snow hill will make it feel like the Holidays for you and your family.

Unfortunately, there are some people who are not as fortunate. We always like to do what we can by donating to different charities and this Thanksgiving season, we’re letting our friends vote on which charity we will donate to. We have chosen 4 different charities in the Texas area for fans to vote to receive our donation. We have also included a 5th option for customers who have a favorite charity that they would like to choose to receive a donation.

Texas Food Bank Network
The Texas Food Bank Network unites 19 food banks across the state with a common mission to end hunger in Texas. The Texas Food Bank Network services hunger relief agencies in all 254 Texas counties. In 2010, TFBN was able to distribute over 298 million pounds of food or approximately 232,975,217 meals.

Ronald McDonald House Charities
The Ronald McDonald House Charities is to create, find and support programs that improve the health and well being of children. Through their 36 years of experience, they have built strong relationships with local communities and people in the field to continually establish chapters across the globe to help families during their most difficult or challenging times.

Star of Hope
The Star of Hope is a community dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men, women and their children. They provide the community structured programs that focus on spritual growth, education, employment, life-management and recovery from substance abuse. At any given day, the Star of Hope helps approximately one thousand homeless men, women and children foster positive life changes.

Noah’s Kitchen
Noah’s Kitchen is a grass roots movement started in Houston that provides the less fortunate with nourishment, nutritional education and other assistance as needed. Its volunteers provide the less fortunate with food, gently used clothing, and the resources that will help them in finding medical help, shelter, employment and eventually housing to get them off the streets.

Fan’s Choice
For last year’s Pick Your Charity campaign, we received an overwhelming amount of charity nominations to receive a donation from Bounce Energy. This year, we’re doing it again. You can either pick from one of the four that we previously listed or submit your own. We’d like to hear which charity or non-profit you’re passionate about.

To vote for your charity, visit the Bounce Energy Facebook Page and after “liking” us, you will be able to vote for your favorite charity or non-profit. The charity with the most votes at the end of the month will receive a $5,000 donation from Bounce Energy.

At the beginning of this month, some of our Bounce Energy team members participated in the Houston Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. We met so many survivors, fighters, and family members who have lost a loved one to breast cancer.

We think it’s important to support organizations that help find a cure for the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. That’s why for breast cancer awareness month, we will be donating $2,500 to breast cancer charities and foundations.

We all know of someone in our lives who currently has or has survived breast cancer. If would like to help us contribute more to breast cancer research, we will be adding $1 for every new “Like” we receive on the Bounce Energy Facebook page.

In short, the REEP provides income-qualified Houstonians with weatherization measures in their homes for FREE. This program will help those who need the assistance to maintain energy efficiency to keep them cool during these hot days and to save money on energy bills too.

After an initial assessment of your home and specific needs, your home may qualify for measures such as weather-stripping, window caulking, attic insulation, room air conditioners and more.

The City is accepting applications now and assistance is awarded to those who meet the income guidelines listed on the program’s homepage.

For information on the program and it’s guidelines, click here.

On July 3rd, while returning from a road trip in Colorado back to their home in Houston, the Berry Family were involved in a fatal car accident. Their minivan was hit head-on by another vehicle who had collided into their car in traffic. The accident took the lives of the parents, Joshua and Robin Berry, and left Peter, age 9, and Aaron, age 8, paralyzed. Their daughter, Willa, age 8, suffered several broken bones. The children are in the care of Houston and Chicago’s area hospitals and are currently being treated for their many injuries.

Organizations in Houston, Texas, and across the nation are coming together to help support the three Berry children. They will need medical rehabilitation, physical therapy, psychological support, and education. We would like to show our support by contributing to the Joshua and Robin Berry Children’s Trust and donating $2,500. You have the chance to help us add even more by “liking” our Bounce Energy Facebook page. For every new “like”, we will add an additional $1 to the fund. Show your hearts for the Berry Children and help us raise money to help them recover from this accident.

Many of us know of someone who is in or has served a branch of the United States Military. If you’re a family member or friend of someone in military, you often wonder if they are doing okay wherever they may be – whether it be stationed at a United States military post or serving their time overseas. It can be a worrisome time for family and friends of military members.

In order to help, Bounce Energy will be donating to Support Our Troops Texas. Support Our Troops Texas does many things to support military personnel at home and abroad. Here are a few of the things they do to help:

Mail monthly “care packages” to troops overseas

Meet and greet troop flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International airport

Send gift cards to active duty soldiers at Christmas time

Send birthday cards and written communication to our troops on a regular basis

Make financial contributions to other non-profit organizations such as Intrepid Fallen Heroes

Bounce Energy would like to add to Support Our Troops Texas’ efforts and is donating $1 for every new connection on the Bounce Energy Facebook page and Bounce Energy Twitter profile. To help, all you have to do is “like” our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter.
