Back to School Deals for the 2012 School Year

By Brooke Drake, August 28, 2012, Save Money, Special Offers

Many students are heading back to school this week, which means its time for school shopping. Now, tax free weekend is a great time for people to start the school shopping process, but on the other hand, for some (okay me) it’s the time to stay away from stores and malls. The crowds and long lines keep me far, far away. The only problem of missing out on tax free weekend also means you are missing out on potential savings. However, never fear there still are many savings to be had. Here are some back to school deals and promotions to keep to your shopping budget and see some savings.

Clothing

  • American Eagle Outfitters is also slashing the price on their jeans offering all their blue jeans under $30 for a savings of up to $20.
  • Gap is offering school uniforms at a discounted price.  Most pants are $20.95 and you can find shirts for as low as $13.96. Walmart is also advertising uniforms starting at $5.97.

Electronics

  • From now until September 8, 2012 students get a FREE Xbox 360 when you purchase a PC for $699 or more from the Microsoft Store. Also, students can save up to $400 on select PC’s.  Note: Offer only available to students with a valid and verifiable .edu email address.
  • More of an apple fan? Buy a Mac for college through September 21 and receive a $100 Back to School Gift Card to use on apps, books, music and movies. Or you can purchase an iPad and get a $50 Back to School Gift Card. Note: Must be for a college student, a parent buying for a college student or a faculty or staff member from any grade level and must be purchased from the Apple Online Store for Education, the Apple Retail Store or an authorized Campus Store.

Supplies

  • Walmart is offering major back to school deals on supplies. You can purchase single items or they have school supply value bundles to save additional money.
  • Head to Office Depot for school supplies. Some of their items are priced so low, they beat Walmart’s prices.  Additionally, every week until Labor Day, Office Depot is selling a number of school supplies for a fraction of the cost. For example, you can find Office Depot brand 2-pocket folders for only 1 cent!

Miscellaneous Deals

  • jcpenny is offering FREE haircuts for kids ages Kindergarten to 6th grade. Call 1-855-527-5437 to schedule an appointment. Note: This offer is only for locations that have a salon.
  • RetailMeNot has an entire page dedicated to back to school deals. Here you can find coupons and deals at stores for everything back to school including clothes, uniforms, shoes, books, electronics and more. For example, shop at Threadless and receive 40% off their tees or save up to 50% off shoes and FREE shipping at Nordstrom.

If you know of any other deals, let us know. We want to hear from you!
