Thermometer with High TemperatureAs much as we don’t want to admit it, the summer is coming. While there are still a few weeks left of blissful spring to enjoy, we know that those high temperatures are inevitably approaching. The hot summer heat creates many issues, including an increase in electricity usage to keep homes and businesses cool, but the major one is the potential for rolling brownouts like Texas experienced in 2011.

In an effort to respond to the increased demand and reduced supply that occurs when everyone starts over-using their air conditioners, Bounce Energy created the Peak Rewards Program. When you sign up for the Peak Rewards Program, you can save money by earning a 5% bill discount when you reduce your electricity usage during an “Emergency Event.” An “Emergency Event” is declared during a peak demand situation where demand for electricity threatens to outpace supply. For Texas, this typically happens in the summertime.

Think of it this way – the hotter it becomes outside, the more people stay indoors, cranking up their air conditioners. This quickly leads to a dramatic increase in energy usage, which will make your electricity bill increase. But the real concern here is that this increase in electricity usage is actually experienced across the state in nearly every home and business, and this peak demand situation can potentially cause the electricity grid to have a supply shortage that can lead to an “Emergency Event.”

The purpose of the Peak Rewards Program is to create a “demand response” program, wherein companies like Bounce encourage their customers to decrease their electricity usage (typically accompanied by an incentive to save money). We created this program in hopes of decreasing demand on the electricity grid during high demand situations.

To receive your 5% bill discount so you can save money, simply reduce your kilowatt (kWh) usage during the peak usage hours of 3 pm to 7 pm on the day(s) an “Emergency Event” has been declared. Please note that, before being awarded the discount, Bounce will need to determine your participation in the program by evaluating the usage you generated on the day of the “Emergency Event”. It will be compared to your historical electricity usage at your service address as well as the baseline usage set for the event.

So, not only do you lower your electricity bill by reducing your electricity usage in general, but you can save money additionally by simply using less electricity when requested. To sign up for the program, you just need to log into your MyAccount page and click the “Peak Rewards” link in the left-hand sidebar menu, or you can call Customer Service at 1-888-452-6862 to speak with a live representative.
