Life Hacks to Save Money: What to Buy in SeptemberPeople enjoy life hacks for several reasons, but we like them for their money saving properties. Better yet, websites like and Lifehacker provide lots of money-saving tips on a regular basis, specifically by recommending a yearly timeline of when you should purchase certain items. These websites monitor prices all year to discover big discounts on items.

This is our ninth installment and with the kids back in school and the summer weather almost over, we’re checking out key items to purchase during the month of September.

Apple’s Back to School Deals

Apple is offering deals for those purchasing a Mac or an iPad for college. If you buy a Mac for college, you’ll receive a $100 Apple Store Gift Card plus receive education pricing of up to $200 off the price. For those looking to purchase an iPad for college, you’ll receive a $50 Apple Store Gift Card plus receive education pricing of up to $30 off. Hurry, because the deals end on September 9th! If you miss this deal, it’s not too late! There’s a chance to snag a factory-refurbished 2014 MacBook Air at a heavy discount as long as you have a valid college (.edu) email account.

Now is the time to pick up last year’s models of appliances at a discount (except refrigerators). Most new appliance models are coming out around this time, which means most of last year’s models will be priced to sell.

Similar to appliances, car manufacturers bring out their new models at the end of the summer too. Consumers can find deals on the previous year’s model starting the end of August and into September, while car dealerships are trying to clear out last year’s inventory.

Apple is set to announce the release of their newest generation of iPhone this month, possibly as early as September 9th. This announcement should bring major price cuts on previous generations, as they will be priced in order to move inventory and make way for the newest version.

Life Hacks to Save Money: What to Buy in SeptemberNational Coffee Day

For all you coffee drinkers out there, make note that September 29th is National Coffee Day (who knew)! While it is a day to enjoy a nice cup of java, according to Wikipedia, the day was also created “to promote fair trade coffee and raise awareness for the plight of the coffee growers.” Several national chains like Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Starbucks, and others offered special deals to celebrate last year. So be sure to check your favorite local cafe or big chain java outlet to see what deals you can find!

Patio Furniture

If you missed the Labor Day rush, don’t worry! It’s still a great time to buy patio furniture. With the summer almost over, consumers will see an increase in the number of deals on patio furniture and other seasonal outdoor items. Big retailers like Target, Lowe’s and Sears may be seen with discounts of up to 75% off on patio furniture.
