Corpus, as it’s often referred, is a family-friendly city in whole. Then again, most coastal cities are, but Corpus takes it even further, with family-focused locales like Texas State Aquarium, Padre Island National Seashore, the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, and Whataburger Field, where the Corpus Christi Hooks baseball team play. These and more draw thousands of tourists to this bustling coastal city every year, so it’s no wonder there are some great, authentic spots to eat at with the whole family in mind.

Snoopy’s Pier

Founded in 1980, Snoopy’s Pier has history in the area. It’s the product of a former commercial fisherman who decided it was a better idea to open up a small bait stand and burger joint with a 600-foot fishing pier than it was to be chased by Texas Game Wardens. With a bit of elbow grease and family recipes, Snoopy’s Pier was converted into a restaurant, and today, it welcomes families with friendly outdoor dining.

Fish, oyster, and shrimp baskets will satisfy the parents, but Snoopy’s also has plenty for the kiddos after a long day at the beach, such as a grilled cheese sandwich, Snoopyburger, or a fish sandwich. A tradition at Snoopy’s, ice cream sundae coupons are handed out every Sunday night at Sunset to a special select few for their ice cream parlor next door – Scoopy’s! If you’re lucky enough to get the “sunset sundae,” consider yourself lucky, though if you don’t get a special coupon, order one anyway while you watch the boats, birds, and occasional dolphin cruise by.

Authentic New York Pizza

You didn’t think you’d find authentic New York pizza in Corpus, did you? The quality is in the name, and this little family-friendly pizza joint was started by a chef with 40 years in the food industry. Any Italian restaurant is warm and welcoming to families, in both vibe and menu.

Choose from specialty pizzas like the Brooklyn Bomber, Penne a la Vodka Pizza, or Texas Pizza, or go a bit more traditional with their Four Cheese, Meat Lovers, or Hawaiian. If pizza isn’t calling your name, then consider their Italian Philly Cheese Steak or Meatball Parmesan. They also serve pastas like baked ziti, homemade manicotti, and linguine alfredo. Need we say more?

Atomic Omelette and Grill

Mmmm… who doesn’t love breakfast all day long? Family-friendly and welcoming to all, the Atomic Omelette and Grill specializes in build-your-own omelettes. But their creativity doesn’t end there. The Atomic pancakes are flavored with white chocolate, macadamia nuts, Granny Smith apples, or Smore’s! Omelette additions include blue cheese crumbles, serrano peppers, pecan-smoked bacon, and sun-dried tomatoes, to name just a few off-beat ingredients.

But if breakfast isn’t your catch, then their chicken fried chicken, crab cake sandwich, or 3-pound Atomic burger might do the trick! With a menu this vast and tasty, there is something for everyone, whether you play it safe with a burger, or venture into unchartered waters with a colorful omelette and Smore’s pancake.

JB’s German Bakery and Cafe

If you’re looking for something besides a full meal – perhaps something to take in your beach knapsack for a seaside snack – then head to JB’s German Bakery and Cafe. JB’s brings a slice of Germany to Corpus with its 2-ton wood burning oven imported from Germany. Deliciously fresh pastries, pies, cakes, and loaves of bread are baked daily, and with over 30 years of baking experience, you can expect nothing short of stellar flavors.

Kids and bakeries go hand in hand, and you’re bound to find a strudel of some sort to please the little ones and yourself. They offer sweet and savory strudels, with flavors ranging from brisket and “cowboy” to pear, raspberry cream cheese, and more. But if you do want to pop in for a meal, then breakfast and lunch is served. Find quiche, French toast, and Belgian waffles on the breakfast menu, and then try out the grilled three-cheese sandwiches and bratwurst for lunch. We are drooling just thinking about it.
