1) Go paperless

Save paper and sign up for paperless billing.

From utilities to credit cards, most companies now offer paperless billing statements. Save paper by signing up to receive bills and information via email instead of mail.

2) Look for the ENERGY STAR label

Each time you need to replace something in your home (light bulbs, furnace, air conditioner, etc.) look for the ENERGY STAR label. This means the product meets a set of standards for saving energy.

3) Start composting

Save your apple core and egg shells from ending up in the dump. Try composting materials like leftover food, grass clippings and even dryer lint! Give these old items new life as nutrients for your garden, yard or indoor potted plants.

4) Fill up the dishwasher

Fill up the dishwasher before you run it!

Wait until you have a full load to run your dishwasher. Dishwashers use the same amount of water and power regardless of how many dirty dishes are inside. Save water and energy by only running it when it is full.

5) Keep your freezer stocked

Did you know that it takes more energy to freeze empty space? So you’re actually helping the planet when you stock up on frozen pizzas (or vegetables)! Keep your freezer full to keep it running as efficiently as possible.

Follow these simple steps to be just a little bit greener any day of the year.
